Accents for the Singer or Pianist
In music notation an accent looks like this > (or standing up like a teepee) and it is place above or below a note. It is emphasis or stronger attack placed on a particular set of notes (or note). The accent contributes to singing or piano playing articulation (how notes sound) and prosody (assignment of syllables to notes) of a musical phrase.
I have attached Sophia Johnson singing “Pulled” which has many accents in her singing, especially in verse 3 that starts with puppy dogs. You can also hear the piano chords being played with accents.
Joke for the day:
What is the most musical part of your body?
Your nose - you can blow it or pick it!
