The summer months are filled with fun and outdoors activities, it’s important to be conscientious of the weather and environment to keep you voice in tip-top shape. Hot weather can create many problems stemming from dehydration.

It’s vital to keep yourself hydrated to prevent a dry throat and vocal cords. Your throat and mouth need the lubrication to sing. A dry throat will really impact your tone, so drink plenty of water, coconut water and grapes; all three help with hydration. Water helps thin the mucus that which protects your vocal cords as they vibrate.

Some other ways to keep your voice in shape are daily exercise and since out doors activities are readily available, there are more activities to keep you in shape like swimming, walking, hiking, jogging or even riding a bike. Eating healthy is another way to keep your voice in shape. Yes, you are what you eat! Dairy (milk, chocolate, cheese) and sweets create a lot of phlegm and inflammation, which causes problems, stay away from them before a performance. Proper breathing exercise techniques and daily practice are also important as well.
